September 08/11

Double double tomorrow periods 6 and 7. Bring mug, beverage, and snack. No Caffeine products or nuts. 
Remember to check with the board at school for updates as well. 

Period #1 English Literature 8
From now on we will have literature during last period - which is a LS tomorrow.
We talked about the character of Mrs. Beauchamp in "Mama and the Doctor's Wife"
 H.W. - Answer question #1 from "Mama and the Doctor's Wife".

Period #3 History 7
We went over the "Map" book. We talked about grids, longitude and latitude, the continents, and the rotation of the earth.
H.W.- Read Genesis Chapter 3. Learn the seven continents and be able to locate them on a map.

Period #4 English Literature 7
We discussed the ending of the story, "Mama and the Graduation Present". We talked about the concept of a "coming of age" story and I explained the plot and its parts. I drew it on the board and labelled it and then explained each part. Students should have notes on this.
 H.W. - Answer question #1 on page 5 from "Mama and the Graduation Present". Learn the parts of the plot. Be able to label a diagram of a plot.

Period #5 English Grammar 7
Life Skills today - I spoke on Society and its values past and present.
Spelling -  6. coax, 7. loftily, 8. academic, 9. enthrall, 10. superiority, 11. heirloom, 12. elocution. 13. grammar 14. objective 15. sigh 16. vernacular, 17. vociferous, 18. oblivious, 19. innuendo, 20. ambiguous. We went over the rules for formal writing. These were written on the board and should be applied to all formal writing in English 7/8.
H. W. - Spelling words 1-5. (Know how to spell each word, define each word and use each word in a sentence that shows the meaning of the word.)
Period # 6 Life Skills/Physical Education - I talked about stereo music. We listened to Sara Groves (Loving a Person). I spoke on nature vs nurture and on learning disabilities.
Topics submitted by you - Recycling, How to save money, Congo/fair trade, Bowery Mission, euthanasia, friendship, perspectives, Atlantic/Guatemala,  Woman's Rights in China, stress, sign language, the power if influence, energy conservation, camping. I am sure that there are more topics. Please submit them at any time.

Period # 7 English Grammar 8
We went over the rules for capitalization from the Grammar text and I assigned exercise "A" for HW.
