Period #3 History 7 and 8 - History Quiz on Thursday, March 22. This will be on unit 7.1. We will have a MAP QUIZ next week - not on Monday.

Chapter 7.2a Questions History 7-8 March/2012
1. Give a brief description of the early growth of the Roman Empire. (Include an explanation of the Latin League (Roman League).) This is on pages 71 and 72.
2. Explain the meaning behind the expression, “A Pyrrhic victory”.
3. Make a list, in sentence form, of the policies that the Roman’s adopted that kept conquered people from wanting to rebel. (There should be eight in all. Second paragraph in column "A", on page 72.)
4. Explain why Rome looked at Carthage as an imposing force that might come against their own emerging empire.
5. Why do they call the wars with Carthage the Punic Wars?
6. Explain the events of the First Punic War. (Causes, events, outcome and effects) You may eventually find some over-lap when you go into the subsequent Punic Wars as the effects of one war often are or lead to the causes of the next war.
7. Explain Rome’s new motive for acquiring an empire.

9. Same as “8” but with the Third Punic War.
10. Briefly explain the war with Macedonia and then explain the clever way that Rome “conquered” Greece.

Period # 6 - Physical Education.
We are looking at the play from the perspective of a director/producer.
Flatline Questions:
- What does the title of the play Flatline have to do with the actual story?
- Three part Question:
What character traits should a good doctor have?
What are some character traits that are typically given to a doctor?
What were some character traits given to Dr. Able?
- Television dramas, movies, etc., are usually meant to entertain but they also often try to influence you with ideas. What can this play lead you to believe about a) spirits, b) angels, c) the devil, d) the state of being unconscious, and e) doctors and nurses?
- There is an expression that goes: “The devil can quote scripture for his own purposes”. What do you think is meant by this? How does this apply to "Flatline"?
- Does this play go along with your idea of spirits and the devil? What are some similarities and differences? (You may use the first person in this answer)
- What is the significance of the angel touching Judy on the shoulder at the end of the play?
- How does a play differ from a short story in how character is revealed?
