10/05/2012 Thursday, Day #3

Next week, I have no scheduled lunch duty but with the nice weather, I may have outdoor duty at noon. Extra help will be in the AM or after school. I can help you at noon if you want to "walk and talk".
 Period #1 Grammar 8 BEKA Quiz next week - look forward to details.
  We went over the Pre-test for Indirect Objects. We did review exercises on D.O . I taught the prepositional phrase.



Home Work -   Ex. "A" on page 131 on the Prepositional phrase.

Period #3 History 7 + 8   Monday, May 14, quiz on Unit 8.1. Be able to list the emperors of both the Claudian and Flavian Dynasties. Also, know what each contributed and information for fill in the blanks.
BEKA Quiz on 8.1 and half of 8.2 on Thursday or Friday of next week.

The five "Good" emperors
     Nerva - (AD 96 - 98)
     Trajan - (AD 98 - 117)
     Hadrian - (AD 117 - 138)
     Antonius Pius - (AD 138 - 161)
     Marcus Aurelius - (AD 161 - 180)

Trajan's contributions to the Roman Empire
     1. He pushed the boundaries of the empire to its greatest extent.
     2. He improved the government in the provinces.
     3. He encouraged news roads and other public construction projects.
     4. Made it illegal to be a Christian.
Commodus - AD 180 - 193 - The mad emperor. This was the beginning of the end of the Roman empire.
Year of the five tyrants - AD 193.
The Severan emperors - AD 193 - 211 
 AD 235 - 285 were 50 years of civil wars with 26 different men claiming the title of emperor.
Persecutors of Christians from 235 - 250 - Maximus Thrax and Valerian

Contributors to the downfall of Rome:
1. The army played a larger and larger role in the selection of the governors.
2. The increases in pay for the soldiers sent taxes sky-rocketing.
3. Financial problems caused the government to reduce the actual amount of gold in the coins, thus reducing the value of the money. 
4. Confidence in the monetary system and government lead to the devaluation of the currency and the economy.
5. The empire was under attack from outside forces.

Diocletian's (AD 284 - 305) attempt to strengthen the Roman government.
1. He established government price controls.
2. He reorganized the army and the government of the provinces.
3. He built new fortifications along the empires frontier borders.
4. He dividee the empire into two parts. He gave the West to co-emperor Maximiam.

HW:Questions 8 - to the end on page 85. That will include the "Identify" words as well.

Period #4 Literature 7Literature - We wrote a pop quiz on the characteristics of the ballad.
Looked at the types of rhyme - perfect, end rhyme, mid-rhyme, internal-rhyme, forced rhyme, visual rhyme, assonance and consonance rhyme. We also looked at rhyme pattern. Rhyme scheme.
HW: Switchfoot song "GONE". What words rhyme in "Gone"? Write them down in a row.



Period #5 Grammar 7  BEKA TEST on Units 8, 9 an 10 with a review of 1 - 8 scheduled for next week when we complete Unit #8.

Home Work - Diagram exercise "A" on page 112.  
 
Period #6 -  .Life Skills - "How the food industry is deceiving you". Tomorrow we will be studying the music industry from the ground up.

Period #7 - Literature 8  Literature  Life Skills today and possibly tomorrow.
Your Love Is a Song - Switchfoot. Rhyme pattern, rhythm and meter. "The Shadow Proves the Sunshine" - apostrophe, irony, symbolism, rhetorical questions, HW: What is the poem about???? (Either song above)
